The clock

the Response due date on the dispute record

Mollie states no single window. The length depends on the payment method, and each method has its own rules on extensions. Miss the printed date and the dispute is set to Lost automatically and the chargeback fee is charged. That printed date is the only deadline that matters here.

reason code, as Mollie shows it

A Reason field, per payment method rather than one universal scheme. For card payments trace it back to the Visa or Mastercard code; for Klarna it is Klarna's taxonomy.

Where you submit

  3. 03Defend, which opens Submit your defense
  4. 04Fill Additional information, attachments, and optionally a proposed refund
  5. 05Submit. The defence cannot be modified afterwards

What Mollie does for you

  • yesShows the reason category with the customer's own claim description underneath it.
  • yesCharges no fee for the portal itself, and no chargeback fee unless the dispute is finally lost.

What it leaves to you

  • noOn very low-value disputes the payment method may resolve the case without reading your defence at all.
  • noIt will not standardise the reason codes — they differ per payment method.
  • noA missed due date is a loss by default, not a late submission.

the common misreading

5,000 characters is a rebuttal, not a paragraph

Mollie gives you the largest free-text field of any processor here and most merchants use four sentences of it. Structure it: the claim, the dated timeline, the exhibit list, the ask.

Now build what Mollie will accept

  • The copy-paste block is written to fit the 5,000-character field with the exhibit index intact.
  • Attachments go in as one indexed set, numbered to match the references in the text.
  • Where part of the claim is genuinely true, the proposed refund field is the honest move.
